Community Based Programs
Do you want to get a feel for what it is all about?  Do you want to experience, first hand, activities that you could be performing in your future career?  The Marine Science department has designed its community-based programs with these goals in mind.

Each program is developed with an off campus partner and is focused on solving an identifiable problem in the community.  It is the student's job to attain the goal!  It all starts with a meeting between the client and a student team.  This is followed by the development of a proposal, which is presented to the client. Then comes the work.  A mix of laboratory and field activities with the student teams in charge.  We instructors take on a support role for each team helping them identify resources and personnel that could be helpful to the project (don't be surprised to have us fully involved in the field activities, we still love it!).  At the completion of the work a report is prepared and at a final meeting it is presented to the client.

What better way is there to learn than through your participation in a real activity that solves a problem for your community?  Is there a better way to feel involved? Check out our community based programs through some of the links below.
