Horseshoe Crab DNA
During the Spring 06 Aquaculture course student Scott Lowicki investigated the use of mitochondrial DNA to trace the origin of horseshoe crabs (Limulus polyphemus) in the aquarium trade. As part of his project Scott published a partial sequence for the Cytochrome oxidase I gene in the Genbank database. The accession number is: DQ631867. The sequence may be viewed by googling "NCBI" and typing the accession number in the search window. Scott is aligning his sequence with other published sequences and will soon make a pronouncement as to the geographical source of his horseshoe crab.

Hello and good day...
My name is Ow and I'm an undergraduate doing a research on horseshoe crab, Tachypleus tridentatus. I have problems extracting DNA from the blood I obtain from my samples. May I enquire what protocol or what technique did you use to extract DNA from blood sample of the horseshoe crab? Thanks for your time. You can reply me at my e-mail below.
Yours truly,
