SMCC Built Drifters Deployed By NOAA

Two sets of three of our GPS equipped surface current tracking drifters have been deployed by NOAA for the third year on their spring cruises. All are ticking away and sending good fixes with very few missed transmissions The first set of three were deployed on the backside of Truro by NOAA ship R/V ALBATROSS in the early morning of 4 May. As of this writing, they are oscillating with the tide a few miles off the eastern side of Nantucket.
The second set of three were deployed near the Boston Outfall site by WHOI ship R/V TIOGA mid-day on 11 May. All units are standard "Rachel" surface drifters marking only the top 1-meter of the water column.
