Alewives return to Alewife Brook

Students and faculty of SMCC have been stocking alewives ( Alosa pseudoharengus ), an anadromous fish , in the Great Pond in Cape Elizabeth, Maine for the past five years. Today, students Kara Lalomia, Andrew Willison, Aaron Graffam and Seth Bucklin led by the intrepid Professor Jack Ney documented the first returns of spawners to the tributary, Alewife Brook. Professor Ney, Brian Tarbox and students will monitor the brook for returning fish and ensure they get into the pond for spawning.
